Etymology: New Latin Sedum + -o- + English heptulose
: an amorphous ketose sugar HOCH2(CHOH)4COCH2OH of the heptose class that is obtained especially from the leaves and stems of various stonecrops (as Sedum spectabile), that plays a role in carbohydrate metabolism but is not fermented by yeast, and that is a laboratory source of d-altrose and d-ribose — called also altro-heptulose
